What is the role of the archival and historical sources, relating to architectural and landscape analyses?

An accurate study of the historical and archival sources, together with architectural and landscape analyses (e.g. carried out with digital survey methodologies) is of fundamental importance for the understanding of the architectural development of buildings. Very often the vast religious complexes, meant as organically formed by the architectural and landscape components, have heterogeneous characteristics, attributable to the influences of local historical events.

A selection of archival sources is therefore necessary, not only to detect the events directly related to the construction, restoration or demolition of buildings but also those concerning transfers of ownership, donations of works of art, any suppression and confiscation of property.

The aim is to outline a chronology of the case-study convents, currently often scarce or non-existent, which will be also integrated by the digital surveys carried out in situ.
